Chicago Brides to Bridal Show or Not?

Are you considering attending a bridal show this year? Millions of brides and grooms attend bridal shows before getting married. 2 out 3 brides and grooms will book a vendor they met at a bridal show. So are bridal shows really worth attending? You can decide if a Chicago bridal show is right for you. We did some research and addressed some frequently asked questions and here’s what we found.

How Do I Find Bridal Shows? Bridal Shows take place year round. They are held in hotels, convention centers, department stores or other venues. Shows range from the intimate with a dozen wedding vendors to huge shows that have well over a hundred vendors. Check websites, wedding publications and bridal shops to see where shows are in the Chicago area. If you’ve registered your name anywhere as a bride-to-be, you will more than likely receive information about Chicago bridal shows in your mailbox or e mail.

Do they cost anything to attend? Some are free while others may cost up to $25 or more. Many times, participating vendors give out free tickets. Often times, there may be a coupon in the paper. Pre-registering may also get you a free or discounted ticket.

Can I bring a guest? Absolutely! You may want to consider bringing your mother, fiance, maid of honor. Having someone with you is a great way to bounce ideas off of or just to help you carry the many items and ideas you will pick up at the show.

Pre-Registering. What is that? When you arrive at the show, you will be asked to register for the prizes. You can save a lot of time by pre-registering online at the bridal show’s website. Pre-registering may also get you a free or discounted admission ticket, early admission or preferred seating during the fashion show.

Do I need to visit every vendor? Some shows will require that you get a program signed or marked by each vendor in order to be eligible for any prizes. There is another good reason to visit all the vendors, even when you have a particular service already booked. Many vendors can tell you other people they work with and who they recommend. Talk to everyone. By the way, you’ll want to take the literature or brochure they are handing out. Many vendors have specials, or discounts, to offer if you book their services on the day of the show. You may want to have your checkbook or credit card with you to hold your date.

Will there be food and drink available? At many bridal shows, there are food tastings available from the hotels, country clubs or caterers present. At others, you can purchase food on premise or nearby. Wedding cakes are another tasty treat you’ll find at all shows. Some shows will have a champagne or punch fountain or a bar set up for beverage sales.

Is there a fashion show? Most shows have some kind of entertainment or runway show, especially wedding gowns and/or tuxedos. In smaller cities, you may just have some models walking around in gowns or tuxes. Runway type fashion shows with numerous models, are generally found at larger Chicago shows.

Do they really give out prizes and honeymoons? You better believe it! We have talked to so many brides who tell us they never thought they would win a honeymoon in the Caribbean. Fill out as many entries as are offered. Sure you’ll get stuff in the mail, but it’ll be worth it. Many vendors will send you coupons, offers, discounts and just great information that you can use to plan your wedding.

We hope this information has helped you decide if a Chicago area bridal show is the right choice for you! Photo Booth of the Stars participates in many bridal shows every year. Come check out one of our photo booths at a local show near you! Please contact us for a list of local Chicago area bridal shows. Photo Booth of the Stars loves bridal shows and will continue to snap photos at many local Chicago shows!

Chicago Snow Won’t Stop Photo Booth Fun!

Chicago is gearing up for a windy wintery snow storm tonight. Photo Booth of the Stars attendants leave an extra two hours early during inclement weather. We will never be late for your event and have back up attendants scheduled should an attendant get held up by the weather. This snowy evening got us thinking….”what were the worst blizzards Chicago has ever seen?” We did some research and thanks to the Chicago Sun-Times here’s what we found.

Jan. 26-27, 1967

Starting in the early morning hours on Jan. 26, the blizzard began dumping snow at a rate of 2 inches per hour. Wind gusted to 53 mph, as snow drifted 6 feet in some areas. When it was all over, there were 23 inches of snow on the ground.

Between 7 and 10 inches of snow were already on the ground, after an earlier blizzard the previous New Year’s Eve. More snow began to fall with a vengeance on the night of Jan. 12, and it kept piling up until 2 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14.

New Year’s weekend, the city was socked with a snowstorm that left 21.6 inches on the ground over its two-day wrath. On Saturday, Jan. 2, alone, it dumped 18.6 inches of snow on the ground –- the greatest single-day snowfall ever recorded in Chicago.

History of the Photo Booth

Photobooths are a huge piece of American history. Photo Booth of the Stars was curious about the history of the photobooth and who originally invented the concept. With some research and the help of the New York public library we got all our answers.

Anatol Josepho a Siberian immigrant was the original inventor of the photobooth. His patent for an automatic coin operated photographic machine was filed on March 27, 1925 and though similar devices existed at or around the same time it was Joespho who brought the photobooth to the masses via Times Square in New York City where people lined up for blocks to have their pictures taken.

Josepho’s is the classic immigration success story: he moved to The United States, struggled, found financial backing, sold the rights to his invention in 1927 for one million dollars (the equivalent of over $12.5 million today) and donated half the money to charity.

Photo booths have had a presence in Hollywood since their creation. The first photo booth appearance in a movie was 84 years ago in a film called Lonesome (1928). In the 1953 film The Band Wagon, Fred Astaire performs a number where he dances into a Photomatic, sits for a photo, the flash goes off to the music and he dances out.

Over 85 years later photobooths still hold a special place in America’s culture. There is something about the intimacy and immediacy of the process, where individuals can be themselves and create an honest and telling self portrait, or where people can playfully act out and document their dreams and desires.

Above is a picture of the first photobooth strip Anatol Josepho took with his terrier.

Bat/Bar Mitzvah Photo Booths

What better place for a photo booth then a bat or bar mitzvah? Photo Booth of the Stars has had the pleasure of servicing hundreds of mitzvah’s over the years. For those of you who don’t know about mitzvah’s we will take a moment to inform you.  Thanks to Wikipedia for helping us out!

“Jewish coming of age rituals. Bar is a Jewish word literally meaning son, in Hebrew it’s Ben, Bat is Hebrew for girl, and Mitzvah is a commandment and a law. While this literally translates to “son of the law” or “daughter of the law”, the rabbinical phrase “bar” means here “under the category of” or “subject to”, making “Bar Mitzvah” translate to “an [agent] who is subject to the law”. According to Jewish law, when Jewish boys become 13, they become accountable for their actions and become a Bar Mitzvah (plural: B’nai Mitzvah). A Bat Mitzvah occurs when Jewish girls become 12, and it means the same as it does for boys- a rite of passage from being considered unable to properly understand the Torah to being considered old enough to begin to understand and thus for boys and girls alike to be treated more like adults. In addition to being considered accountable for their actions from a religious perspective, B’nai mitzvah may be counted towards a minyan (prayer quorum) and may lead prayer and other religious services in the family and the community. The age of B’nai Mitzvah was selected because it roughly coincides with physical puberty Prior to a child reaching Bar or Bat Mitzvah, the child’s parents hold the responsibility for the child’s actions. After this age, children bear their own responsibility for Jewish ritual law, tradition, and ethics and are able to participate in all areas of Jewish community life.”

Preteens and teens alike love taking pictures. That’s why photo booths are great additions to bat or bar mitzvah’s! Both girls and boys enjoying snapping funny photos. Having a DJ and dancing is great but including a photo booth adds a WOW factor.  Memory books are a great upgrade to include to preserve photos and memories. Children can look back years later at all the wonderful photos and messages saved in their memory book. Photo booths are also the perfect gift to give to that special mitzvah child. Whether Mom and Dad, Aunt or Uncle, God Father or God Mother gift the photo booth your special mitzvah child will be grateful for years to come.
