Since not everyone drinks alcohol and some guests at events may not be of age to drink liquor, having some well-though non-alcoholic alternatives are always a good idea to consider.  Looking back at your photo booth images some of you may have wished that you had thought of this at your wedding or other event when that certain guest was a little over served and made a bit of a spectacle.  For all of you summer brides having a non-alcoholic option available could be a genius decision.  Considering we all know how festive guests can get when the high temperatures of summer are combined with alcohol consumption this may be something you are interested in.

If you are hosting an event where you know there will be non-alcoholic consumers present they will feel very appreciative to have a substitute besides cranberry juice, or diet coke to sip on throughout the event.  We came across some photo booth worthy cordials and mocktails that would be a snap to whip up at your wedding, corporate event, or even for fun this weekend!  For those of you unfamiliar with mocktails and cordials we put together a little 411.

Bartending 101:

Cordial – another word for liqueur.  It originally came from the Latin word “cor” which meant “heart”.  The word liqueur came from the Latin word that meant “melt” or dissolve.  It is more common in the US to use the word cordial.  It is more common in Europe to use the word liqueur.

Cordials are made by using the flavors of various fruits, herbs, spices and plants. Those flavors are then infused with a spirit such as cognac or whiskey. Crème cordials just mean that they have a higher sugar content than regular cordials.  (via www.examiner.com)

Mocktail – a nonalcoholic drink consisting of a mixture of fruit juices or other soft drinks. (Via google.com)

A great alternative drink for toasts are this simple Atomic Cat.  All you need is equal parts orange juice and tonic water.  We found this recipe on Rob Allen’s hubpages along with a lot of great other ones.

Who doesn’t enjoy a Bloody Mary?  Here is are the ingredients for this yummy Virgin Mary Mocktail.  You can get the entire recipe on Rob Allen’s hub.

You need:

  • 4 oz Tomato juice
  • Dash of Lemon juice
  • Dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 drops Tabasco sauce
  • Salt
  • Celery stalk for garnish
  • Pickle garnish for garnish (optional)

We can’t think of anything more refreshing to sip on in between your photo booth poses than a nice minty fresh mojito.  Having a virgin Mojito on the menu would be a niche little touch for the non-drinkers at the party and will certainly be something unexpected for them.  It’s also a drink well known by bartenders and the ingredients will be readily available at the bar.  Here’s the recipe once again via Rob Allen

You need:

  • 1 1/2 oz Club soda
  • 3 fresh Mint sprigs
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 3 tbsp fresh Lemon juice

Delight into the minty taste of Cuba minus the kick of the white rum by simply muddling the sugar, mint leaves and a little club soda into a highball glass. Add the 3 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1 1/2 oz Club soda and drop lime wedges, 3 dashes Angostura bitters and ice cubes. Mix your non-alcoholic Mojito using a customized stirrer and garnish with mint sprigs. Indeed, you have the heaven called Havana in those simple steps.

We think these recipes will all need a little quality assurance this weekend!
