Wedding Disaster Image

There are endless opportunities for things to go wrong during an event.  But could you imagine having the misfortune of finding out that the photographer you used for your wedding had their camera, or SD card that housed all of your images on it stolen from them?  All of your images documenting one of the biggest days of your life are gone?

That is pretty unfathomable but this young bride and groom received this horrible news when they discovered that their photographer had the SD card in her purse holing all of the couples images on it when her purse was stolen.  Luckily they had a photo booth rental at their reception so they are blessed to have pictures of all of their guests enjoying themselves as well as a few shots that the photographer had taken prior to the ceremony.

It’s really terribly for the couple and they have since went on Fox 9 news to make a plea to try and get the SD card back.  So far there have been no updates on this story but we will be keeping an eye out in hopes that this will have a happy ending.

Justin and Erin Voss both agree that they still have their memories of the Big Day but they have to be sincerely disappointed that this had happened to them and out of the possibilities that could have gone wrong this was certainly not one that had crossed their mind.  If not for the photo booth at their wedding reception they would have no images of their guests and bridal party.

The photographer has learned a hard lesson and suggests other photographers keep the SD cards near to them at all times, and do not take them around with you to avoid this mishap from happening to you and your clients.  For other couples planning their wedding day be sure to ask your photographer how soon your images will be backed up as well as including your photo booth rental.

While this is not the only and probably won’t be the last story of similar situations here are a couple suggestions for new photographers to help avoid equipment from being stolen when shooting a wedding at a public location.

-Carry your equipment whenever possible and travel light.

During a wedding the bride and groom are the main focus of the day.  Guests are not keeping an eye on you and your belongings so it could be rather easy for a crook to swoop in and take off with your gear without even being noticed.  Not to mention guests at weddings do not all typically know one another so a thief could just blend right in with the crowd without a problem.

-If you do have to put down your bag, ask a friendly guest if you can put it next to them.

Determine what spots you will likely be standing at during the ceremony to capture the beautiful wedding shots and ask a guest seated nearby if it is ok to leave your gear there as to not disturb the ceremony.  Guests typically happily agree and will feel helpful.

-Suggest a photo booth for the reception.
