The Emmy’s are here!

 Neil Patrick Harris, Emmy's Host

In case you haven’t heard, the 65th Emmy awards are happening this Sunday at 7c on CBS.  This year will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and will honor the 50th anniversary of 1963 television milestones.  It will include television’s role in two major events, including the assassination coverage of President John F. Kennedy in 1963, and the performance by the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964.

Why not host an Emmy awards viewing party with your friends?  There is always an excuse to throw a great party, and this is no exception!  Who doesn’t enjoy watching the red carpet looks, and critiquing all of the celebs?

Invite the girls over for a comfy, relaxing, lounging, night in.  Guests could show up in pj’s or lounge attire and everyone can sit around and gossip and try to guess who will win.  Get some cheese and crackers and enjoy some wine then order some great take out for an easy breezy party.  Everyone loves a pajama party no matter what age you are, and since the awards are on a Sunday evening this is a great recipe for some fun.

Another idea is pick a favorite or popular show and everyone can dress up as characters from it.  Make some fun signature drinks to keep everything festive!  Shape has listed 11 TV show-inspired cocktails that look amazing and I can’t wait to try them all!  They came up with an Over 30 Rocks cocktail that sounds amazing.  Here’s the recipe:

Emmys Parties, TV show inspired cocktails

2 ounces Ron Abuelo Anejo

Juice from ½ a lime

1 teaspoon maraschino liquer

1 teaspoon grapefruit juice

1 maraschino cherry, for garnish

All you do is shake the first four ingredients with ice, then strain over crushed ice in a rocks glass.  Garnish with the cherry.  I don’t know about you, but in the steamy sauna heat wave we are having today in Illinois, this sounds pretty refreshing to me!

They also have recipes for the Kimmel and juice, The Desperate Housewife, Boardwalk thief, and more.  They also have a list of Emmy inspired low calorie drink options on there as well.  Here is the link where you can find all of the delicious recipes that are sure to get your vote.

You could also go formal and everyone comes in their red carpet attire.  Have champagne served and some delicious hors d’oeuvres.  The menu needs to be killer if you decide to go formal.  Leg of lamb, lobster, crab, could all be good considerations.  Here’s what the attendants at this years Emmy’s will be indulging in Sunday.

First course:

Gem lettuce salad, made with basil-scented mozzarella, marinated heirloom tomatoes, heirloom beats, crisp basil and extra virgin olive oil.

Main Course:

Filet mignon, red wine-braised short rib, potato tart stuffed with D’Anhou pear and fresh asparagus in red wine sauce.

Dessert:

A spin off of black forest cake, featuring a creamy, sour, pudding chocolate cake sprayed with chocolate velvet and topped with devils food cake, roasted cherries, cherry tapioca and mascarpone cream.

Cocktail:

Vodka-based cocktail with juiced cucumber, St. Germain liqueur and lime juice and garnished with cucumber and rosemary.

This will be prepared by over 200 of the best chefs and the theme of this extravagant dinner is “enchanted forest.”  Is your mouth watering yet?

Hope you enjoy watching the awards and no matter what, whether you throw a party of 10 and up, or if it is just a party of 2, have fun with it!  You don’t have to spend a lot of time or money to make it a fun and special occasion.  I hope reading this will give you a little inspiration and help you end your weekend with a night to remember.
